Ariana Grande has confirmed that a new album is coming, and I honestly wonder where this woman is able to find the time!
The pop star confirmed the upcoming project, titled petal, on social media in late April, despite denying album rumours in recent months and having a busy schedule while filming Wicked and the imminent Focker In-Law.
News of the album — which marks Grande’s eighth overall and first since 2024’s eternal sunshine — is HUGE for Arianators (an admittedly tongue-twisting fandom name), so let’s sort through everything we know about petal, shall we? YUH!
Ariana Grande’s petal release date, cover art, tracklist and singles
Grande revealed the album title, cover art and release date on her socials on April 28.
The cover is a close-up, black-and-white shot of the pop star with cascading hair over her face. It’s the first cover in her discography where she is smiling (she has famously been through it), which might provide hints about what we can expect from the project (more on that later).
petal will be released on July 31, 2026, Grande confirmed. The pop star also executive-produced and co-wrote the entire project with longtime collaborator ILYA, who worked extensively with Grande on previous albums Thank U, Next, Dangerous Woman, Sweetener and Eternal Sunshine.
So, we know the duo can’t help but get in the studio and cook — and boy, I’m hungry.
Starving, actually, since we don’t yet have a tracklist or singles for petal. But with a fast-approaching album release date, expect updates on that front sometime soon.

What is Ariana Grande’s petal about?
In a press statement accompanying the album announcement, Grande described petal as “something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging”. It’s vague enough to really mean anything, but I (a close personal friend, sister and confidant of Grande’s) am getting healing/self-improvement/growth vibes à la eternal sunshine.
She provided a more detailed explanation in a video posted on May 7, teasing that the upcoming album is “a little feral” while addressing her team in the studio.
“It’s kind of about breaking up with all different kinds of negative attachments, whether it’s my own monsters in my own head, external voices, things that no longer serve me. It was a writing experiment for me to use that as a template so that I could be talking about one thing, sharing something, and people could use it however they want and apply it to their own lives,” she said.
“It’s a little feral, as well. It’s definitely from a place that I have been maybe too shy or polite to tap into before. And this kind of just feels like, f**k it.”
The album’s description has led some fans to theorise that the “growing through the cracks” might pertain to Grande’s (controversial) relationship with Ethan Slater.
There were reports the couple experienced a rough patch late last year, and while they are still together, fans reckon the breakup rumours might be what Grande was referencing when she mentioned something “challenging” in petal’s description.
That speculation hasn’t been confirmed, and we won’t know for sure what the album’s about until it arrives in a few months’ time. Keep an ear out!

All the clues Ariana Grande dropped about petal
Grande only began officially teasing the album a few weeks ago, when she shared pictures of herself in the studio.
That was quickly followed by a TMZ report claiming Grande had “finished a new album” and was “super excited about” its summertime release in the US.
That turned out to be true, but more eagle-eyed fans picked up on a potential tease earlier this year in the message she recorded for the Brighter Days hotline, named after the deluxe version of eternal sunshine. “Our staff here at Brighter Days are so looking forward [to the eternal sunshine tour],” Grande said on the recorded message.
“We’re counting down the eights — oops! I mean, the days.” Naturally, fans interpreted Grande’s misuse of the number eight as an intentional reference to her eighth album. That, too, appears to be the case, since we now know petal is on the way!

All those breadcrumbs came despite Grande consistently denying that she was working on new music.
The pop star said in multiple interviews during the Wicked press run that she was stepping away from music to focus on acting, in amongst her Oscar-nominated role as Glinda and upcoming appearance in Focker In-Law.
“I’m always going to do pop stuff, I pinky promise, but I don’t think doing it at the rate that I’ve been doing for the past 10 years is where I see the next 10 years,” Grande said in 2024, before saying the following year that her imminent tour would be “one last hurrah”.
The eternal sunshine tour was confirmed last July, and is in support of the namesake album as well as positions.
Tragically, there are no Aussie dates, with Grande instead heading through North America, Canada and the UK from early June to September. That timeframe falls within petal‘s release, so expect the live debut of some of its tracks while Grande is on the road.
Grande again denied the rumours as recently as January of this year, saying her bustling schedule allowed no time for new music.
“Do you think there’s another version of me out there who had time to write an album?” she said. “I would need an extra brain and four more arms.”

So I guess she grew another brain and pair of limbs, because Ariana Grande’s petal has since been officially confirmed.
We’ll be sure to update you with any new album developments as they arise, but in the meantime, whip out the antihistamines because petal is coming.
