Ariana Grande responds after Pete Davidson 'proposes' to singer Maggie Rogers in SNL clip

Ariana Grande has responded after Pete Davidson referenced their cancelled engagement in a new clip from Saturday Night Live.

The trailer, which featured this weekend's host Jonah Hill, saw Davidson jokingly propose marriage to the episode's musical guest Maggie Rogers.

“Hey Maggie, I'm Pete. You wanna get married?” he said, to which Rogers simply said: "No."

Grande responded with a series of now-deleted tweets, one of which read: "For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh [sic]".

Later, she retweeted a message which said: "Tag yourself I'm Maggie" in reference to the singer declining Davidson's offer.

The pair’s romance began in May earlier this year, with reports that they were engaged emerging just days later – a rumour that Davidson later confirmed in an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where he said it felt like he'd “won a contest”.

Soon after their relationship began, they moved into a $16 million (£12.2 million) New York City apartment together and adopted a piglet named Piggy Smalls in September.

Davidson has multiple Grande themed tattoos, including a dangerous mask woman on his neck – something he covered up earlier this week by transforming it into a love heart. Meanwhile, Grande repaid the public display of affection by releasing the song “Pete Davidson” on her album Sweetener.

Their split came after the death of rapper Mac Miller who Grande had been in a relationship with from September 2016 until May of this year.

Miller's passing led to an outpour of tributes from his friends and collaborators, many of whom gathered for a tribute concert in Los Angeles on Wednesday (31 October).
