Looks like Ariana Grande is letting her Instagram Stories do the talking — and the message is clear: she and Ethan Slater are very much fine, thank you.
After weeks (okay, months) of breakup chatter following the Wicked: For Good press tour, Ari quietly dropped some new stories that had fans breathing a collective sigh of relief. In the photos, taken by Ethan himself, Ariana can be seen enjoying a cosy holiday get-together with her friends — including her adorable pup, music producer Doug Middlebrook, SNL fave Bowen Yang, and another friend named Harry Moore.
The snaps weren’t overtly PDA-filled, but they didn’t need to be. The vibes were enough. Fans were quick to pick up that the photos were taken by Ethan and originally shared on his own IG Stories, which is basically celeb-speak for “don’t believe everything you read”. Subtle, but effective.
The timing makes perfect sense: this wholesome update comes right after Ariana’s big Saturday Night Live hosting gig on December 20 — her third time leading the show. Despite the breakup rumours swirling since before the Wicked promo circuit, Ethan was absolutely there for his girlfriend that night. While the couple didn’t pose together publicly, Ariana’s longtime friend (and Victorious co-star) Elizabeth Gillies shared a post the next day filled with behind-the-scenes photos — including one featuring both Ethan and Ariana’s bestie Aaron Simon Gross. Liz gushed in her caption, “Nobody does it like you, dingus… What a treat it is to watch you use your many talents and gifts and use them so effortlessly well.”
ICYMI, the breakup rumours started bubbling back in October, thanks to a Daily Mail source that claimed the couple’s “exhausting schedules” were putting strain on their relationship. Still, a PEOPLE source recently said the opposite — adding that Ariana and Ethan “are making it work” and remain “incredibly supportive of each other’s careers”. Judging by Ari’s latest round of Insta love, the two are clearly still tuned into each other’s frequencies — just keeping things low-key while the world watches (again).
And because Ariana and Ethan can’t stop trending even when they’re just existing, today also brought the highly anticipated release of a behind-the-scenes Wicked: For Good clip — yes, that one. Shared by Entertainment Tonight, the newly released scene features Ethan Slater and his mate Jonathan Bailey finally living up to Bowen Yang’s 2024 tease about a deleted “shirt-ripping” moment. So yeah, between the wholesome stories and the bonus scene reveal, Ariana and Ethan have had quite the soft relaunch week!
