A source has spilled extra deets about what exactly led to the end of Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater’s relationship, a day after news of their split broke.
The pair, who dated for almost three years after meeting as Wicked co-stars in 2023, reportedly broke up “several months ago” and on “ambicable” terms, according to an insider who spoke to Us Weekly on Tuesday.
While that source provided a few tidbits about the break up, including that it came after “lots of time and careful consideration” and that Grande is apparently “doing great” post-split, we didn’t get too many details about what actually caused the relationship to end.
But now, we have a little more insight thanks to another Us Weekly source who claimed the couple’s romance fizzled at the end of Wicked, which led to more time apart from each other.
“After their press tour [for Wicked: For Good] died down, they had been spending more time apart than usual,” the source said of the relationship’s demise.
The insider added that Grande and Slater had tried to work things out before deciding to go their separate ways.
“They both agreed they wanted different things and had been working through what the future holds together,” they said, adding that the couple “hoped things would work out”.
It’s still pretty vague Hollywood-speak, but it sheds some light on what went down before the pair called it quits, even though they are seemingly still on good terms.
Us Weekly reported that Slater still ‘liked’ an Instagram Post shared by Grande on Monday, one day before news of their split hit the press.
It was a post celebrating the first show of Grande’s freshly launched Eternal Sunshine tour, which a source said is her “focus” in the wake of the break up.
Grande and Slater met on the set of Wicked, but the start of their romance was marred in controversy given how recently they’d both broken up with their exes, Dalton Gomez and Lilly Jane.
Except for a few social media moves, the pair largely kept their relationship out of the public eye, leading to consistent break up rumours until it was officially confirmed this week.
Grande’s tour will continue with a bunch of shows across North America before concluding with a five-night residency at the O2 Arena in London.
