On Monday Ariana Grande paid an unexpected tribute to Jim Carrey on Twitter. The 'God is a Woman' singer recently opened up about coping with her depression while on tour, and Carrey was there to support her.

Grande claims to have used the AOL instant messenger username “jimcarreyfan42” in fourth grade and posted a quote of his about depression to her Instagram Stories.

Carrey’s quote reads, “Depression is your body saying, ‘I don’t want to be this character anymore. I don’t want to hold up this avatar that you’ve created in the world. It’s too much for me.’ You should think of the word ‘depressed’ as ‘deep rest.’ Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character you’ve been trying to play.”

Just days prior, Grande shared with her Twitter followers that she’s been struggling with her mental health since the start of her Sweetener tour. “I just feel empty and i wanna have more to say / better energy to give to u and rn i don’t have anything. love u,” the singer wrote on Twitter.

Carrey was diagnosed with ADHD and has battled depression for years. He tweeted Grande in response to the Instagram Story mention.

“I read your lovely mention of me and things I’ve said about depression,” his tweet read. “A brilliant teacher and friend, Jeff Foster was OG on the 'Deep Rest' concept. I admire your openness. I wish you freedom and peace. I feel blessed to have such a gifted admirer. Happy Easter!”

Grande rightfully freaked out about a message from her hero. “I can’t process this or breathe hold on,” she tweeted. After her pause, she continued, “thank u so much for your kindness. i don’t think u understand how much i adore u or what u mean to me. thank u for taking the time to share this w me. you are such an inspiration. i can’t wait to tattoo this tweet to my forehead. sending you lots of love & all things happy.”

After an extremely successful two weeks headlining Coachella, prompting fans to title the festival “Arichella” and kicking off her long-awaited tour, Grande might be in need of the deep rest Carrey mentions.
