Argos sees surge in sales of gazebos, pizza ovens and barbecues following 'rule of six' announcement

Sales of gazebos rose by 200 per cent at Argos following the Government's announcement that small garden parties would be allowed in England from March 29.

The 'rule of six' will come into force from the end of next month which will allow two households to enjoy a small garden party or meet in an outdoor public space.

Argos says that following the news, sales of patio heaters, barbecues and pizza ovens have soared across the UK.

They say that there was a rush on garden products at Argos.co.uk, with orders of gazebos up 123 per cent.

Pop-up versions were even more popular, up 200 per cent, proving that wet weather won't act as a deterrent for those planning a knees-up.

Searches for patio heaters went up by 109 per cent, the retailer said.

Barbecues have had a surge in popularity too, with sales tripling from Sunday to Monday.

An Argos spokesperson said: “Millions of people were delighted yesterday to find out that we’ll be able to enjoy much of the spring in the garden spending time with close friends and family.

"After a tough time, people are clearly looking to make the most of the year ahead by celebrating in style, but safely.

“Though Argos offers same-day delivery and click-and-collect shopping at hundreds of Sainsbury’s stores, there’s still plenty of time to deck out your garden in advance of the rules changing."
