Argos is making a huge change to its stores and it's making shoppers nostalgic

Argos is making a major change to its stores and there is a lot of reaction to it.

The retailer has been a go-to for generations of kids for their Christmas list and adults for those important electrical and home purchases.

But after nearly 50 years it is bidding a "fond farewell" to the "book of dreams".

That's right, 47 years, 93 editions and more than 1 BILLION copies later, the Argos catalogue is no more.

The news has left many feeling nostalgic about their past purchases and feeling like 2020 isn't done with the bad news.

"Kids will never know the true meaning of Christmas now that Argos are getting rid of their catalogue," one shopper tweeted.

Another said: "The Argos catalogue was usually the research material (basically an early Google) for my list to Santa."

"RIP Laminated Book Of Dreams," added a third.

A fourth commented: "Wait, #Argos is going to stop printing it's catalogue? 2020 is there no end to your misery?"

"So there will be no more #Argos catalogues. Now I hate 2020 even more," another said.

A shopper added: "RIP the Argos catalogue and waiting for the new one to come out, flipping straight to the toys section, folding over pages as a hint to Mum."

Explaining its reasoning Mark Given, Chief Marketing Officer at Sainsbury’s, said: "Over the decades the Argos catalogue has charted the nation’s changing tastes and trends in everything from must-have toys to the latest gadgets and devices.

"Today, popular products include wireless earphones, gaming consoles and lots and lots of LEGO. In 1973, when the catalogue launched it was point-and-shoot cameras and spacehoppers.

"Just as our customers' tastes have changed over the years, so have their shopping habits. We’re seeing an increasing shift towards digital shopping, using our mobile app, website and in-store browsers.

"Closing the book on the catalogue will help us focus on delivering exciting and inspiring digital shopping experiences to meet the changing needs of our customers, both in-store and online."

But it's not completely over as Argos will still be producing the iconic Christmas Gift Guide, "giving customers present inspiration for special Christmas moments as families get together to circle products they would love to find under the tree."
