Argos Christmas advert 2019: Story behind the song that is playing

Argos kicked off the festive season launching its hotly anticipated Christmas advert on telly tonight.

Millions of Coronation Street and Gogglebox viewers will be treated to the nearly three-minute long advert which celebrates the tradition of circling your most-wanted gifts in the Argos catalogue.

Renamed as The Book of Dreams for 2019, the much-loved Argos catalogue will take a starring role in the Christmas advert for the first time in a decade to the back drop of an iconic 80s tune.

What is the story behind the advert?

The story begins in a kitchen, where a father sees that his daughter has circled a drum kit in the catalogue.

Tapping the page with his finger and the kitchen table splits open to reveal the drum kit and the kitchen starts to transform into his own private gig, with bulbs beaming in the oven and stage smoke pouring from the fridge.

This year we have a dedicated Christmas in Liverpool Facebook Group where we'll be bringing you all the latest offers, things to do and more - so make sure you join today.

What song is playing?

The dad then suddenly starts playing the drum intro to Simple Minds' 80s classic Don’t You Forget About Me which starts playing on the TV and he drums along.

The little girl, woken by the noise, joins her dad and suddenly the kitchen is transformed into the gig of a lifetime, with adoring fans chanting along.

In a scene-stealing moment, Cubby the Curious Bear - expected to be one of the most popular toys this year - leaps off the stage and crowd surfs.

The advert airs tonight (November 1) during ITV’s Coronation Street and Channel 4’s Gogglebox.
