Argos catalogue covers over the years as go-to retail guide ends after 47 years

Argos has brought an end to its iconic catalogue after printing more than 90 editions after almost half a century on the high street.

The glossy catalogues had become a staple for families across Scotland, with many seeing it as the go-to guide for all the must-have toys in the lead up to Christmas.

But things have changed drastically and the firm now doesn’t see a future for the humble book - which will now be replaced by a similar and less physical service online.

The retail chain has printed more than one billion copies of its 93 editions since they were first introduced on the high street in 1973.

Either the covers or the brand logos have been altered with each edition as a reflection of the time they were printed in.

Each edition of the catalogues gave an insight into what the most popular items were for kids and adults alike during a specific period of time.

Children's toys, cookware, gadgets and jewellery were just some of the items available for sale in each copy.

The store produced every edition under the ethos of providing customers with everyday goods at budget prices.

The rise of technology means that Argos' unique business model will undergo some changes in the near future.

With the catalogue disappearing from the entrances of the stores, customers will now browse for items on their computer at home.

A spokesperson for the high street chain has confirmed that the it will continue to produce its annual Christmas guide - but many are sad to see the more regular edition disappear after 47 years.
