Argentines pay tribute to Pope Francis in his hometown of Buenos Aires

In Villa 31, a low-income neighbourhood in the heart of the city, residents attended a night-time mass in Pope Francis' honour.

The pontiff, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, died at the age of 88, a day after delivering his final Easter message from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

The first Latin American pope won admiration for his humility and commitment to social justice but faced criticism from conservatives over his views on capitalism and climate change.
