Argentine star responds to Man Utd scouts being sent to watch him play

Manchester United scouts have been keeping a close eye on DC United star Luciano Acosta - and the midfielder is flattered by their interest.

The Argentinian attacking midfielder, who has struck up a stunning partnership with United legend Wayne Rooney, was watched by Old Trafford representatives at the weekend.

But Rooney was sent off as the Washington-based side were thrashed 4-0 at home to LAFC with Acosta admitting he was left frustrated to have failed to impress.

He's still set to remain on United's radar as he's linked to a move away from the MLS to test himself in Europe.

Paris Saint-Germain almost signed the 24-year-old in January for around £8.6m before the French club pulled out of the deal on deadline day.

"I’m obviously happy [United] were here," Acosta said.

“Today wasn’t my day, we were up against a great opponent and in reality I’m just sad for the group’s performance today, and mine too.”

Acosta, who bagged 10 goals and 15 assists in the MLS last season, has been tipped for big things by Rooney.

His contract runs out in December but he's in talks over an extension which could bump up the price United have to pay.

"He needs to keep motivated,’ Rooney told the Washington Post in February.

"He’s a professional player, I’m sure he will.

"He now knows what kind of teams are interested in him. If he continues performing up to his ability, he will get there.

"He’s young and he’s talented, one of the best I’ve played with."
