Argentina interior minister resigns after government election blow

Argentina's interior minister Eduardo 'Wado' de Pedro offered his resignation on Wednesday, the first high profile casualty from the government in the wake of a bruising election loss for the ruling party in midterm primaries on Sunday.

In a letter to center-left President Alberto Fernandez, circulated by the ministry, de Pedro said he was offering his resignation to help the government move forward towards the full midterm ballot in November and regain voter support.

"Listening to your words on Sunday night where you raised the need to interpret the verdict expressed by the Argentine people, I have considered the best way to help this task is by putting my resignation at you disposal," he wrote.
