Argentina
15 Joaquín Tuculet 7/10 His clearing kicks have become a vital outlet but he is deadly with ball in hand, too. Has established himself on world stage at last
14 Santiago Cordero 6/10 Wild game with loads of pluses and minuses, cancelling each other out in the end. Electric in attack but the big guys look for him in defence
13 Marcelo Bosch 8/10 Massive game from start to finish. Just about the complete centre and held the team together as other senior players fell to injury
12 Juan Martín Hernández 7/10 Pretty heroic, given the evident pain he was in. Majestic in attack as ever, putting others into space, often in support. Shame he left so early
11 Juan Imhoff 4/10 Horribly out of position for second Aussie try and early knock to the head denied one of Argentina’s stars a chance to make amends
10 Nicolás Sánchez 6/10 The crazier it became, the more he came into his own. But you can be too crazy. His intercepted pass put Argentina on back foot
9 Martín Landajo 6/10 Argentina have two little gems to choose from at scrum-half. Kept them moving but a little bit of foot on ball would not go amiss
1 Marcos Ayerza 6/10 Did not get as much movement on his side as Herrera did on his but the scrum is a collective effort, they say. Great work in defence
2 Agustín Creevy (c) 5/10 Lovely offload at start and solid setpiece. Missed a couple of tackles, though, and the second key player to be off by the half-hour
3 Ramiro Herrera 8/10 The very first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Argentinian beef. Broke Slipper in the scrum and was fearsome with ball in hand
4 Guido Petti 7/10 Big shift, pinching the ball at the lineout and breakdown. And this guy is 20 years old. Argentina are sorted at lock
5 Tomás Lavanini 8/10 And this guy is only 22. He was a monster round the field. The yellow card he was awarded was a disgrace and a costly one
6 Pablo Matera 6/10 Good shift from the man who terrorised Ireland last week, if not quite reaching those heights. See Herrera’s entry, re beef
7 Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe 8/10 Argentina’s heart and soul, hurling himself into the fray. Subtle of hand, fearsome of fibre, another senior player to stand tall
8 Leonardo Senatore 5/10 A handy target at the lineout but could not quite get into the game otherwise and was withdrawn early in the second half
Replacements Julián Montoya (for Creevy, 31) 6 Lucas Noguera (for Ayerza, 61) 6 Juan Figallo (for Herrera, 61) 5 Matías Alemanno (for Petti, 58) 6 Facundo Isa (for Senatore, 49) 7 Tomás Cubelli (for Landajo, 55) 6 Jerónimo de la Fuente (for Hernández, 44) 6 Lucas González Amorosino (for Imhoff, 18) 5
Australia
15 Israel Folau 6/10 Nearly got away a couple of times in the first half. Always fairly cool at the back, if untested. Loose kick in second half
14 Adam Ashley-Cooper 8/10 Hat-trick hero, but did plenty more besides. Solid in the air and a bristling handful on the hoof. Telling defence, too
13 Tevita Kuridrani 6/10 A lot of heavy-duty carrying, particularly in the first half, but we don’t get as many of the soft-hand Fijian flourishes as we used to
12 Matt Giteau 7/10 Lovely cut-out pass for Ashley-Cooper’s second try. Couple of key tackles, too, one on Landajo sticks in the mind
11 Drew Mitchell 7/10 Devastating run down the left in the final 10 minutes raises him above the so-so. The great players do that just when it matters
10 Bernard Foley 6/10 Mixed bag off the tee, but some distribution was very fine, changing the point of attack with aplomb. Kept his cool towards the end
9 Will Genia 7/10 Pretty quiet for much of it, which means he just did his job then relieved pressure calmly as it rose in second half. Which it did
1 James Slipper 3/10 Had a tough afternoon at the scrum, unable to cope with the powerful man opposite him. Little impact in loose either. Sio was missed
2 Stephen Moore (c) 5/10 Tidied up a fair bit of filth but was part of a scrum that struggled. It’s been a quiet World Cup for Australia’s captain
3 Sekope Kepu 6/10 Seemed to stand his ground a little better at the scrum, although lucky in one at end of first half. Some good work in defence, too
4 Kane Douglas 8/10 Huge shift in defence and usually at the thick of the Argentina maul. Didn’t see him in attack or at the lineout. Otherwise engaged
5 Rob Simmons 7/10 Game started off superbly for him, galloping home for first try, and regularly on hand as a carrier. Gave away one very soft penalty
6 Scott Fardy 9/10 What a game. The unknown flanker who makes Pooper look so fine. Huge interventions, time and again. And he won as many turnovers
7 Michael Hooper 7/10 To the fore in defence and the usual aggressive work in the contact area, whether carrying into it or scavenging after it
8 David Pocock 8/10 We saw a fine battle at the breakdown on Saturday, but this guy is the king. So many Argentina attacks foundered on his turnovers
Replacements Tatafu Polota-Nau (for Moore, 59) 7; Toby Smith (for Slipper, 53) 6; Greg Holmes (for Kepu, 53) 6; Dean Mumm (for Simmons, 69) 5; Ben McCalman (for Fardy, 71) 5; Nick Phipps (for Genia, 67) 6; Matt Toomua (for Folau, 65) 6; Kurtley Beale (for Giteau, 47) 7
