Areas of Perth and Kinross where COVID has been 'suppressed' rises as deaths fall

COVID-19 deaths in Perth and Kinross dropped to their lowest level since November last week.

Data from the National Records of Scotland shows there were six deaths linked to the coronavirus across the region in the week beginning February 22.

That is the lowest figure since the week beginning November 16 last year.

Two-hundred-and-forty-seven people have now lost their lives to the pathogen in the region.

The infection rate across Perth and Kinross also continues to fall, albeit at a greatly reduced rate.

On February 27, the rate was 59.9 per 100,000 people after 91 positive cases, with 2.9 per cent of tests returning a positive result.

The week before the rate was 61.9 per cent with 94 positive tests - 3.2 per cent of all tests.

The North Inch neighbourhood in Perth continues to have an infection rate of over 400 per 100,000.

However, 23 neighbourhoods are considered to have suppressed the virus for now, up from 22 the week before.

These are: Western Edge; Viewlands, Craigie and Wellshill; Stanley and Murthly; Rannoch and Aberfeldy; Powmill, Cleish and Scotlandwell; Muthill, Gleneagles and Greenloaning; Moncrieff and Friarton; Milnathort and Crook of Devon; Luncarty and Dunkeld; Kinross; Invergowrie, Longforgan and Abernyte; Guildtown, Balbeggie and St Madoes; Glenfarg, Dunning and Rhynd; Gannochy and Walnut Grove; Crieff North; Coupar Angus and Meigle; Comrie, Gilmerton and St Fillans; Burghmuir and Oakbank; Blairgowrie West; Blair Atholl, Strathardle and Glenshee; Auchterarder; Alyth and Aberuthven and Almondbank.
