Area near London Eye cordoned off due to ‘suspicious package’

A number of roads near Waterloo Station have been cordoned off by the Metropolitan Police amid rush hour on Monday evening following reports of a suspicious package.

York Road, near County Hall and South Bank tourist hotspots including the London Eye, was sealed off by a police van, video footage of the scene shows.

The Met said said an unattended suitcase was found at Forum Magnum Square at 5.10pm and a controlled explosion was carried out.

Officers were stood down after it was established the suitcase was not suspicious.

People should avoid the area where possible.

Metropolitan Police said road closures would be in place for some time.
