Are You Tracking Which Grocery Chains Offer Extra Loyalty Points Now?

As 2025 comes to a close, grocery chains and credit card issuers are launching aggressive end-of-year loyalty promotions to capture holiday spending. Shoppers who are not actively monitoring their rewards portals are leaving significant value on the table. Major players like Kroger, Safeway, and financial partners like Chase have rolled out specific “multiplier” events for December that can dramatically accelerate point accumulation for fuel, travel, and cash back.

The Fuel Point Frenzy

Kroger and its family of stores (including Ralphs, King Soopers, and Fry’s) have activated their popular “4X Fuel Points” events for Fridays in December. Typically, shoppers earn one point per dollar, but loading the digital coupon transforms a standard hundred-dollar grocery trip into four hundred fuel points—enough for forty cents off per gallon of gas. Additionally, specific gift card purchases are triggering 4X bonuses, allowing savvy shoppers to buy gift cards for stores they plan to visit anyway (like Home Depot or Amazon) and essentially get free gasoline as a reward.

The “Game On” Rewards Strategy

Safeway and Albertsons have been running their “Game On” rewards program, which continues to offer multiplier opportunities through the end of the year. Shoppers using the “for U” app can find targeted offers that multiply points on specific categories like meat or produce. These points can be redeemed not just for grocery discounts, but also for sweepstakes entries for substantial prizes. The key is that these offers must be manually added in the app before checkout; they do not apply automatically.

Credit Card Category Bonuses

Beyond the store apps, credit card issuers have ramped up their grocery bonuses for Q4 2025. Chase has targeted specific co-branded cardholders with offers to earn up to 7X points on grocery purchases through December 31st. This is a massive jump from the standard 1X or 2X earning rates. Similarly, American Express and other issuers often have “amortized” spending caps that reset on January 1st, meaning December is the final chance to max out the 6% cash-back tier on cards like the Blue Cash Preferred before the annual limit resets.

Digital “Sneak Peek” Offers

Retailers are also using “sneak peek” or “flash” digital coupons to drive midweek traffic. These are often app-exclusive point multipliers valid only for 24 hours. For example, a store might offer “3X Points on All Brands” on a Tuesday to boost sales during a slow period. These offers rarely appear in the printed weekly ad, rewarding only those who check the app daily.

The “Double Dip” Opportunity

The real power comes from stacking these offers. By using a credit card with a 7X grocery multiplier to pay for a transaction at Kroger on a 4X Fuel Point Friday, a shopper is effectively earning a double-digit return on their spending. In an era of high food prices, these loyalty points act as a critical inflation hedge, but only for those who take the time to track and activate them.
