Australia’s first same-sex weddings have been held in the past week for couples who were granted special dispensation to skip the month-long notice period required under marriage law. But 9 January is the first official date that most same-sex couples will be legally able to exchange their vows in Australia, and a spike in summer weddings has been predicted.
