In countries such as the United States and the UK — and even in Australian states like Victoria and New South Wales — nurses have seen increased workloads due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It has only added to the ever-increasing workload coming from an ageing population and an increase in chronic disease.
Many nurses are reporting burnout and industry leaders in Australia are concerned about the toll this will take on the workforce.
