Are you a father whose work took you away from your children?

David Attenborough, one of the UK’s most beloved broadcasters, has told the Radio Times that one of his biggest regrets is that he missed large parts of his children’s lives while building a career.

Speaking to the documentary maker Louis Theroux, Attenborough said: “If I do have regrets, it is that when my children were the same age as your children, I was away for three months at a time. If you have a child of six or eight and you miss three months of his or her life, it’s irreplaceable. You miss something.”

Share your experiences

While mothers also have to work away from children, it’s not so common to hear men open up about how hard they find this, so we want to hear from fathers about whether they have similar regrets. Are you a parent who has a demanding career? Do you wish you’d made more time to see your children? What would you have done differently? Share experiences, stories and views.
