Are Trubisky/Nagy the best QB-coach combo in NFC North?

There is no relationship in football as significant as that between head coach and quarterback.

That couldn’t be more true for the Chicago Bears, who after the firing of John Fox looked to find the right head coach they could pair with their young quarterback.

Ultimately, the pairing of Matt Nagy and Mitch Trubisky will prove to be the rise or fall of the Bears.

The combo of Nagy and Trubisky has already proven to be impactful, as Trubisky made significant strides under Nagy from Year 1 to Year 2. As Trubisky enters his second season in Nagy’s offense, there’s an expectation for Trubisky to make an even greater leap as he has a better understanding of the offense.

But are Trubisky and Nagy the best QB-coach combination in the NFC North?

According to NFL Network analyst Brandon Flowers, the answer is a resounding yes, who cited Nagy’s place on the Andy Reid coaching tree as something that can help a quarterback.

“They’re going to schematically get players open,” Flowers said on NFL Total Access. “Guys don’t have to win the one-on-one match-up, and that makes it easier for your quarterback.”

Unlike another quarterback-coach combo in the division, Trubisky and Nagy have a solid relationship that allows them to get on the same page. Having that relationship with Nagy is invaluable for Trubisky as he continues his growth as a young quarterback in the NFL.

“If everything goes to haywire, Nagy can come as a head coach and sit him down and say, ‘Hey, what do you like? What do you want to do? This is your world,'” Flowers said. “So I just think he has the comfortability to have Nagy as a head coach.”
