Are the Knicks using a Kevin Durant photo to sell 2019-20 season tickets?

The worst kept secret in the NBA right now is that the New York Knicks are going to be in a relentless pursuit of Kevin Durant during free agency this summer.

New York sent away Kristaps Porzingis and a pair of bad contracts to Dallas to open up what could be up to $70 million in cap space this summer, more than enough to bring in two max-level superstars.

Many reports suggest that Durant to New York is all but done, and that Durant is going to play out the rest of the season with the Warriors, try to win one more title, and part ways with the franchise that changed his career. And don’t get it wrong, Durant changed the trajectory of the Warriors dramatically by joining the team after the 2016 season.

While there are reports saying that the Knicks are confident that they’ll land Durant, photos have surfaced suggesting that the franchise may be putting the cart ahead of the horse.

The screenshot in the tweet could be nothing but a gag and a play trying to earn some retweets. However, Paul Lee followed up with another tweet saying, “It was 100% real. I’m a season ticket holder and it was what I saw when I logged into the subscriber portal. Because of the pickup this tweet got, they’ve already taken it down.”

There were others in the thread who confirmed that the image was real and it was taken down. Christian Koch, another season-ticket holder, pulled up the email that was sent and found nothing, but eventually found the image in question after logging into his membership portal with a screenshot of the whole webpage.

There’s no word from the Knicks yet on whether the team actually used the photo, and this hasn’t been confirmed by anyone but Knicks season-ticket holders yet, but things do seem to be checking out. That’s a pretty gutsy move by a team that hasn’t actually brought in Durant yet — and is still six months away from even having the opportunity to try.
