Are the Giants better than the Jets? Pro Football Focus thinks so

Loaded with cap space and looking to build around a young roster, the Jets went out and made multiple splashes in free agency this past offseason.

The Jets added C.J. Mosley, Le’Veon Bell, Jamison Crowder and Quinnen Williams, but that still doesn’t mean their roster is better than their roommates, according to Pro Football Focus.

While Gang Green is on the cusp of making a run, the Giants have started to rebuild their roster. The Giants traded away Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns while letting Landon Collins walk in free agency. They also drafted Eli Manning’s eventual successor in Daniel Jones, which has become the talk of the back pages.

With the Jets primed to go all-in, why is it that Pro Football Focus and ESPN+ think Gang Green has the second worst roster in the NFL compared to the Giants, who are ranked No. 27?

In 2018, the Giants only won one more game during the regular season. They picked three spots behind the Jets and took a second-round level quarterback, while the Jets may have gotten the best player in the draft. The Giants’ big splash was signing Golden Tate, while the Jets signed two of the best players at their respective positions in free agency.

It may not be a universal opinion, but many thought the Jets had the better offseason with both teams trending in opposite directions.

The Giants certainly have the Jets beat at the cornerback position, as well as the entire offensive line, but it seems the Jets get a lot of the edge elsewhere. Still, the Jets have a lot of unproven commodities.

Yes, the Jets have not yet earned the right to receive the benefit of the doubt from the NFL media. They have a new head coach, a new GM and a lot of young, unproven players. The Jets have yet to prove they are capable of being contenders, so it seems these roster rankings are based on reputation more than moves made on paper.

While it is expected the Jets will have a better season than the Giants, they can put any doubts to rest when they play their stadium-mates on Nov. 10.
