Storm Arwen blew into Manchester last night bringing strong gusts of wind, rain and wintry showers.
The city centre took a battering, with a road in the Northern Quarter was closed after winds blew wooden boards onto parked cars, while trees were toppled over in other areas of Greater Manchester.
Many residents woke up to a covering of snow on Saturday morning as a chill sets in over the weekend.
There is a yellow weather warning in place for the region for strong winds until 6pm tonight, although the worst of the storm is over.

Luckily, Manchester’s Christmas Markets are still going ahead this weekend, with the weather set to be cool but bright, with Storm Arwen moving on.
Manchester City Council announced that the markets were open to visitors this weekend on their Twitter page.
It will come as welcome news to anyone planning a trip to the markets, and for stall holders as last year the markers were significantly cut back due to the pandemic, so visits to this year’s are even more special.
Stalls will be open today selling festive food and drinks, handcrafted gifts, clothing and toys while entertainment will be on offer, including ice skating.
This year you can visit the Winter Gardens at Piccadilly Gardens, which serves as the main hub for the markets while Albert Square is closed. The gardens are open from 10am until 9pm, with the food stalls closing at 6pm and the craft stalls closing at 8pm.
Markets located elsewhere in the city will be open from 10am until 9pm, with craft stalls closing at 8pm. You can find these on King Street, St Ann’s Square, New Cathedral Street, Exchange Square and Corn Exchange, Market Street and Cathedral Gardens.
