Are supermarkets such as Aldi, Asda and Sainsbury's open today on Bank Holiday Monday?

It's the start of May - which means there are two Bank Holiday Mondays which give workers and school children an extra two days off and extends the weekends from two to three days.

And people have been allowed to meet in gardens and in pub beer gardens across the country this weekend, although Monday's weather is set to be cool and punctuated by rain showers across the country.

The first Bank Holiday Monday is today, Monday May 3. There's another one at the end of May - on Monday May 31.

But what do Bank Holiday Monday mean for shop and supermarket opening hours?

Most shops will be open, including all the leading supermarkets, but some could have limited opening hours today.

Sainsbury's said most of its larger stores are open from 8am to 8pm, while its Sainsbury's Locals will be open as normal. Check here for opening times.

Tesco stores are open on Bank Holiday Monday (Tesco stores are open today)

Tesco stores and Tesco Metros will be open from 8am to 8pm and Tesco Express stores will be open as usual. Check here for opening times.

Asda stores will be open from 8am to 8pm with some of its 24-hour stores also working reduced hours. Check here.

Aldi will be open from 8am to 8pm. Check here.

Lidl most of its stores will be open from 8am to 10pm. Check here.
