Are MOTs still going ahead in Edinburgh despite UK-wide coronavirus lockdown?

News that the UK was effectively going into lockdown amid the Covid-19 outbreak posed a range of questions.

And one of those was about MOTs, and whether they'll still be taking place at this time of great uncertainty.

We're being urged to stay at home unless absolutely essential, after all.

Some people had taken to social media to express concern that their vehicle's certificate would expire in the coming weeks, and lockdown would mean they're unable to arrange a test.

However this might not be the case, depending on what vehicle you use.

According to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) tests will still be going ahead for cars, vans and motorcycles.

However, as explained by Road Policing Scotland "lorries, buses and trailers are exempt from needing an MOT for 3  months from 21 March, but you may need to apply for this."

More information on how to register for this exemption can be found on gov.uk.

Updates have also been issued for anyone with a driving test booked.

Theory tests have been suspended for one month while full driving rests are off for the next three months. They may still be available to critical workers, though.
