Are driving lessons and tests still going ahead in lockdown?

The country is now in another national lockdown in a bid to control an alarming rise in coronavirus cases.

Boris Johnson announced the new measures during a televised address to the country on Monday evening.

During his announcement, the Prime Minister told the nation to stay at home other than for limited exceptions.

But can driving tests and lessons still go ahead under the new rules?

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) said they were "working closely with the government to agree the impact of the restrictions" on Monday night.

And on Tuesday, the DVSA confirmed that driving lessons and tests will not be allowed under the new lockdown.

A statement read: "All driving and riding tests have been suspended from 5 January until the restrictions are lifted.

“We'll email candidates who are affected by this to let them know we will reschedule their test.”

They later tweeted that theory tests are also suspended until restrictions are lifted.

Many learners have taken to Twitter to call for an extension on theory certificates, while some others urged the government to allow 'key worker' tests to go ahead as an exception.

One tweeted: "Seriously need to extend theory certificates now. I've got students whose practicals have been cancelled 4 times now & have been waiting 10 months to just sit the practical."

Another shared: "Please allow key worker tests to be taken urgently. This has gone on long enough now and is seriously impacting people’s employment and prospects."

However like in Tier 4, there is currently a blanket ban on tests and lessons, with no exceptions announced at this stage.
