England has now entered a third national lockdown amid the superspreading new variant of coronavirus.
The Prime Minister told the nation to stay at home in a televised address on Monday evening other than for limited exceptions.
A number of non-essential businesses have been ordered to close, if they hadn't already done so in Tier 4, including non-essential shops and hairdressers.
Meanwhile many businesses can continue to operate. But does this include garages and can you still get an MOT?
Under the new rules, which are set to become law from Wednesday, venues providing essential goods and services can stay open.
The government guidance states that the following can remain open: petrol stations, automatic (but not manual) car washes, vehicle repair and MOT services, bicycle shops, and taxi and vehicle hire businesses.
Garages across the country have learnt from the previous lockdowns and introduced strict health and safety measures in order to make their businesses 'Covid-secure'.
However car showrooms must close.
"Car and other vehicle showrooms and other premises, including outdoor areas, used for the sale or hire of caravans, boats or any vehicle which can be propelled by mechanical means," the guidance states.
Therefore garages can remain open for essential repair services, but they won't be able to trade vehicles during this period.
As dealerships are being forced to close, it could be that many actually choose to shut their doors entirely during the lockdown period – including those for the servicing department.
Make sure to check if your local garage hasn't closed entirely before making the journey.
