We’re still reeling from the results of the first-ever finale of Golden Bachelor Australia, and naturally, the question on everyone’s lips is whether Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden and winner Sunny Long are actually still together.
If you’re not across the Bachie-lore, Long was handed the final rose in last night’s finale episode, beating out runner-up Janette Bendle during a bombshell rose ceremony held in South Africa.
Given what we know of reality dating shows (ahem, MAFS), you’d be forgiven for thinking Myrden and Long are no longer together since the show wrapped, but in welcome news for believers in love, the pair have confirmed they’re still going strong.
Long and Myrden opened up about the current state of the romance in their first post-finale interview with Woman’s Day, saying they had to conceal their secret Airbnb meet-ups while The Golden Bachelor was still airing.
“There were a few secret meetings at Airbnbs. We had to show up at different times and sort of rush in,” Long said, adding that the sneaky rendezvous made it feel like Myrden was “Mr Bond and I’m his Bond girl”.
I guess Myrden’s sneaky FB relationship status update was a tell-tale sign, but the pair took things a step further when they discussed their plans for the future, including possible engagement and wedding plans.
“We’ve got a lot of things to discuss,” Myrden said of potentially walking down the aisle.
“[We] have huge feelings for each other … Both of us want to see our love grow organically, so we’re going to take it one step at a time,” Long added.
We’ll have to wait and see what cupid does next for the pair, but they were as equally loved-up during last night’s picturesque finale.
“When I think about the future, I can’t imagine doing it without you,” Myrden said before presenting Sunny with the final rose, while the lucky winner said she couldn’t “wait to go on this journey with you in life”.
It capped off a dramatic inaugural season of the Bachelor spinoff show which came to include familiar faces in the cast, plenty of offscreen speculation, and reports of noise complaints dealt to the mansion.
We might just be doing it all over again if rumours of a second season are confirmed, without even mentioning reports of a Golden Bachelorette. We’re gonna need a field’s worth of roses at this point!
