Are banks open on Juneteenth in 2025? That's a question plenty of folks are asking just ahead of the holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. The answer is no, banks are not open on Thursday, June 19.
While Juneteenth has been unofficially celebrated for nearly two centuries, Congress voted in 2021 to make it the 11th federal holiday.
When then-President Joe Biden signed the bill, Juneteenth became the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.
Many folks will choose to spend the holiday celebrating with family and friends. However, others may take time to take start planning home renovations, including for their backyards.
According to a recent survey by data collection firm Talker Research, the average estimated cost to complete a "dream exterior" is $13,321. But Kiplinger Tax Writer Kate Schubel says folks can stretch their dollars even further by focusing on tax-friendly renovation ideas such as installing solar panels or adding a fence.
