Bank opening times and rules explained following the death of the Queen

Following the death of the Queen, the new King has announced a period of Royal Mourning that will be observed until seven days after the Queen’s Funeral.

On the day of her funeral, there will likely be a bank holiday and most places are expected change their operating hours or close altogether.

It will most be down to businesses to decide what they do. The funeral is likely to take place on Monday, September 19 - but a date has not yet been officially confirmed.

Official Government guidance said: "There is no obligation on organisations to suspend business during the National Mourning period.

"Depending on the nature and location of their business and the tone of planned events, some businesses may wish to consider closing or postponing events, especially on the day of the State Funeral, however this is at the discretion of individual businesses."

Today, all bank and building society branches appear to be open, including Lloyds, NatWest, HSBC, Barclays, Santander and Nationwide.

Most shops and supermarkets are open too.

The day of the Queen's funeral will be a Day of National Mourning, but employers will not be compelled to give staff a day off.

There will be a national bank holiday, following church services and memorial services across the UK.

The service will take place at Westminster Abbey, and a two-minute silence will be held across the UK at noon.

As with shops and office, it is up to the individual pub or chain to decide whether to close.

Many people were in pubs across the country last night raising a toast to Her Majesty.

However, pubs will be closed for one day in the Isle of Man, which is a British Crown dependency located in the British Isles.

Official guidance from the Government states: "There is no obligation on organisations to suspend business during the National Mourning period.

"Depending on the nature and location of their business and the tone of planned events, some businesses may wish to consider closing or postponing events, especially on the day of the State Funeral, however this is at the discretion of individual businesses."

All the major supermarkets - so Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer and Waitrose - don't appear to have adjusted their opening times online for today.

Supermarkets have been posting tributes to Her Majesty online and have changed the colour of their social media logos to black as a mark of respect.

Shops like Poundland, Primark and Boots all appear to be open as normal as well.

Selfridges is the biggest brand to stay closed today, as a mark of respect for the Queen.
