Ardrossan's Scotland star Billy Gilmour ruled out of Croatia clash after testing positive for Covid

Ayrshire footballer Billy Gilmour has suffered a huge blow as he will miss Scotland's crunch Euro 2020 clash with Croatia.

The Ardrossan midfielder has tested positive for COVID-19 and must now sit out tomorrow night's match.

Former Kilmarnock schoolkid Gilmour turned in a man-of-the-match performance against England in Friday night's spirited goalless draw.

He earned rave reviews for his display at Wembley where he was watched from the stands by his family.

And the nation's eyes were firmly fixed on the Chelsea ace, 20, heading into the showdown with the Croats as Scotland bid to qualify for the tournament's knockout stages.

Gilmour will self-isolate for 10 days.

A statement from the Scottish Football Association read: "The Scottish FA can confirm that a member of the Scotland national team playing squad, Billy Gilmour, has tested positive for COVID-19.

"Having liaised with Public Health England since the positive test was recorded, Billy will now self-isolate for 10 days and, therefore miss, tomorrow’s UEFA EURO 2020 Group D match against Croatia at Hampden."
