Ardoyne stabbing incident leaves man 'critical but stable' in hospital, police say

A 29-year-old man is in a critical but stable condition after an alleged stabbing in North Belfast last night, police say.

It's reported that shortly after 10.30pm on Sunday night, police were approached by the male on Etna Drive who claimed he had been stabbed by three males in Ardglen Place.

In a statement issued by the PSNI, they say the man had stopped his car when he was approached by the males who reportedly stabbed him in the arm and back before making off.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan said: "The man was taken to hospital for treatment where his condition is described as critical but stable. A 19-year-old female, who was also in the car at the time, was not injured.

"Three males, two aged 18 and one aged 20, were arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody at this time."

"I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who has any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Musgrave Police Station on 101 quoting 1456 05/04/20.

"Alternatively information can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 that gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."

SDLP Councillor Paul McCusker said: "This community has had enough trauma and shock over the weekend at already frightening times during Covid-19 and don't deserve this.

"Those intent on continuing to cause harm or misery to the community need to go away."
