Ardoyne security alert as school evacuated

A school in North Belfast has been evacuated after a suspicious object was found on Monday afternoon.

Police remain at the scene at Holy Cross Boys’ Primary School in Ardoyne .

School principal Kevin McArevey found the object when trying to fix a sewerage problem.

Pupils were then evacuated from the school site.

Mr McArevey told Belfast Live: "There was some sort of a device with metal tubing and wires at the end of it. I think it's absolutely disgraceful that some sort of device like that would be put into the sewerage system of a children's primary school."

A PSNI spokesman said: "Police are currently at the scene of a security alert following the report of a suspicious object in the Brookfield Street area of north Belfast this afternoon. A nearby school has been evacuated.

"There are no further details at this time."
