Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following a shooting incident in North Belfast.

Detectives launched a murder enquiry this afternoon following fatal shooting in the Etna Drive area of Ardoyne at around 11.50am this morning.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Detectives from the Major Investigation Team investigating the murder of a man in North Belfast this morning have arrested three men on suspicion of murder.

"They have been taken to Musgrave Police Station where they are currently being questioned."

SDLP North Belfast Councillor Paul McCusker said that people in Ardoyne are in shock following the incident.

Cllr McCusker said: “This brutal crime has cause immense shock in Ardoyne today. My thoughts are with this man’s family at an incredibly difficult time.

“Police have locked down a large part of the community where the shooting took place and near a burned out car nearby. I would urge everyone to cooperate with PSNI officers as they investigate."
