The late president of a North Belfast GAA club has been described as a "true leader".

Jimmy McLaughlin, club president at Ardoyne Kickhams, was hailed as a "distinguished player at both club and county level".

The club announced the news on Monday.

Speaking to Belfast Live, a spokesman said Mr McLaughlin was an "inspiring" figure.

He said: "Jimmy was a true leader to us all. He epitomised everything that means Gaelic and he inspired so many young and old.

"He was there at all times for everyone giving advice guidance and encouragement and friendship.

"Our club has lost a true gentleman, Gael, and father figure who will never be forgotten."

Mr McLaughlin is survived by his wife Anne, his children, Brian, Kevin, Liam and Sinéad.
