Ardern sides with Australia in China spat

Jacinda Ardern says New Zealand has made its own protest over China's "unfactual post". (AAP)

New Zealand has made an intervention in the escalating diplomatic stoush between Australia and China, raising concerns with Beijing over a doctored image shared by its foreign official.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the image shared on Twitter, which features an Australian soldier holding a knife at the throat of a child, warranted her government making its own protest to China.

"It was an unfactual post and of course that would concern us so that is something we've raised directly in the manner that New Zealand does," she said in Wellington on Tuesday.
