Aside from maybe Jon Walters against Germany, the most famous act of corner flag guarding in Irish football history belongs to Father Dougal Maguire in one of the greatest Father Ted episodes.
And over the weekend, the man who played him reprised that role for one moment at least as Ardal O'Hanlon shared this brilliant homage to the beloved comedy.

He captioned it: "…and they only get me to mind the corner flag! Hard to outrun your past. #FrTed"
The amusing photo went down a treat with followers as it brought back boatloads of nostalgia.
Jason wrote: "I grew up as a kid when Father Ted first aired.
"To this day it makes me smile and laugh hard even though I know all the punchlines and jokes. It's timeless. Thank you for being such an enjoyable actor."
Meanwhile, someone else agreed: "We just rewatched all these lately, so much laughter and memories. Dougal was brilliant."
A host of other followers quoted back some of their favourite lines from the episode where Ted manages the Craggy Island Over 75s in a bitter derby against their Rugged Island counterparts.
Matthew said: "Didn't you say that Fr Jack had a trial for Liverpool Ted?" "No Dougal - Fr Jack was on trial in Liverpool."
Similarly, Rich joked: "That flag looks very small. Or is it just far away?"
Lastly, Des commented: "I can just picture Cyril McDuff stood behind you."
No word as of yet on whether any of the players from this weekend's game were able to match the exploits of Fr. Romeo Sensini...
