Arctic Monkeys, Bastille, Disclosure and Rudimental saw their album sales double overnight, following the Brit awards, on 19 February.

According to the Official Charts Company, Disclosure had the biggest spike of all of the nominees despite not winning an award, with sales of their debut Settle increasing by 138%. Sale’s of Bastille’s Bad Blood spiked to such a degree that his album may stand a chance of re-entering at No 1: following the band’s performance and win for British breakthrough, they leapt to No 2 with a sales increase of 132%, just 600 sales behind current frontrunner Nina Nesbitt. Ellie Goulding is not far behind either – the best British female award-winner is just 1,000 copies of Halcyon off the top spot. Sales of Rudimental’s Home went up by 130% and double award-winner and Brits show opener Arctic Monkeys saw sales of AM rise by 115%.

Albums by Beyoncé, Bruno Mars and Daft Punk also saw increases just a few hours after the event, and David Bowie’s The Next Day, which jumped up 107%.

“The Brits is one of the biggest music talking points of the year – and is again proving its power in influencing sales too,” Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said. “It is great that so many excellent new British acts are seeing the benefit this year. Double congratulations to Arctic Monkeys, Disclosure and Basti-mental!”

Despite the artist’s reaping the rewards of the show’s exposure however, this year’s Brits pulled in its lowest audience for a live broadcast of the show with nearly 2 million fewer viewers than last year, with an average of 4.6 million people tuning in.
