Arco releases time-lapse of new Hull distribution centre being built

This incredible time-lapse footage shows Hull safety equipment supplier Arco’s huge new National Distribution Centre being built.

Visitors to Hull would struggle to miss the new 20,500 sq.m. warehouse, which sits on the edge of the A63 in the west of the city.

The new distribution centre forms a core part of family-run Arco’s ambition to grow turnover to £500m.

Work began on the new warehouse space in March 2018, and now – ahead of its expected unveiling in December – Arco has released some impressive time-lapse footage of its construction.

It shows the transformation from an empty patch of land on the Priory Park Business Park, to the eye-catching centre you see today.

Neil Griffiths, Divisional Director of Logistics said: “Having started work in January 2018 we are delighted to announce that after over 165,000 hours of work on the project, the construction phase of NDC2 is now complete.

"NDC2 is a key part of our local investment strategy; this 20,500 sq. metre warehouse will double the available capacity for Arco and drive our growth ambitions.

"We remain on target to complete work in October, and look to be operational in December.”

Arco chose regional construction firm Clugston as its main contractor on the project.

The 20,439m² building will house additional warehouse and logistics capabilities, doubling Arco’s capacity.

The extension, which will be linked to the existing building, has been designed to optimise the space available, with a 19m internal height storage capacity and the ability to store around 40, 000 pallets.

John Everitt, project manager at Clugston, said construction of the new facility had gone smoothly.

He said: “Construction has gone very well, and that is down to lots of early planning with Arco.

“At Clugston we always want to improve on health and safety, and it goes without saying it is the same with Arco.

“We share very similar values in business, which has helped during the construction of the warehouse.”

Arco’s new distribution centre comes at a key time for the family-run Hull firm.

The supplier is also set to relocate its headquarters to a brand new development at the heart of Hull’s Fruit Market area.

Arco already has its digital team based in the Fruit Market, but the move would see the business significantly increase its existing footprint.

Pictures have previously shown the new National Distribution Centre taking shape.

The new time-lapse footage however, shows every step of its construction over the last 18 months.
