Archishop of Canterbury, former Bishop of Durham, urges people to get booster

Justin Welby, the Archishop of Canterbury, has encouraged people to get the booster vaccine 'this Advent and Christmas, to protect yourself and others.'

From the Church of England's official Twitter account, the Bishop shared an image of him wearing a mask and receiving the vaccine.

The Bishop is the latest figure to encourage people to take up the booster vaccine as the national campaign to #GetBoostedNow continues.

The Most Revd Welby served as the Bishop of Durham between 2011 and 2012, before being announced as the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury in late 2012.

Earlier this year, the Archbishop, along with other faith and humanitarian leaders, issued a joint call for equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world.

The Declaration, which calls for decisive leadership from countries and organizations across the world, states: “There is a choice. The world of the next 10 years can be one of greater justice, abundance and dignity. Or it can be one of conflict, insecurity and poverty. We are at a turning point.”

The catastrophic impacts of the pandemic, combined with existing issues of conflict, disaster and famine, mean that the world is facing the challenge of reversing “devastating dynamics”.
