Archie Lyndhurst, the son of Only Fools and Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst, has died aged 19.

The CBBC actor was discovered at his family home in Fulham after suffering from “a short illness”.

An inquest into his death is due to be opened next week. It is being treated as “unexplained but unsuspicious”.

Archie is Rodney Trotter star Lyndhurst’s son with his wife of 21 years, Lucy Smith. He was born in 2000.

He followed his father into the acting profession, and had his breakthrough role on CBBC show So Awkward as Ollie Coulton.

He was dating his co-star Nethra Tilakumara.

Archie also appeared in the BBC3 sitcom Bad Education, in which he played the young version of Jack Whitehall’s lead character.

CBBC paid tribute to Lyndhurst, writing: “We're so sorry to have to tell you that Archie Lyndhurst, who so brilliantly played Ollie in So Awkward on CBBC, has very sadly died after a short illness.

“Archie will be hugely missed by all who worked with him, and by all the fans who laughed along with Ollie in the show.”

The channel also urged any young fans feeling affected by the news to contact Childline.

His friend, Game of Thrones actor Samuel Small, paid tribute to Archie on Instagram.

“I still can’t quite comprehend that you have passed," he wrote. “You still had so much life to live and I’d give anything for you to keep on living it.

“My heart aches all day and everyday thinking about you and I just wish I could talk to you just one more time so you could know how much I loved you.”
