Archant revamps its business structure

Restructuring appears to be the order of the day at regional newspaper groups. Soon after Northcliffe Media announced an organisational change, Archant has revealed a similar switch.

It is reducing the number of separate divisions by combining three of its businesses in Norfolk, Suffolk, Hertfordshire & Cambridgeshire in a single division, Archant Anglia, led by Johnny Hustler, currently managing director of Archant Lifestyle.

The group's London newspaper and magazine businesses will be combined into a single Archant London entity headed by Enzo Testa, who already runs the London newspaper business.

And Archant Lifestyle will be merged with Archant South West and Archant KOS Media under Miller Hogg.

Archant's chief executive, Adrian Jeakings, said: "We are living through a time of unprecedented change and increasing competition in the media industry.

"Our future growth depends on our ability to respond rapidly and cost-effectively to our customers' evolving needs. These structural changes will help us do this better and faster."

Archant employs around 1,850 people in England and recorded a turnover of £139m in 2010. In recent ABC figures, its two daily titles in Norwich showed small circulation rises, the only English regional dailies to put on sales.
