Arcane season 2 is getting a physical release—but it looks like one big disappointment

One of Netflix’s most acclaimed animated series, Arcane, returns with a physical release for season two, but the much-requested deleted scenes are nowhere to be found, leaving fans disappointed.

GKIDS, in collaboration with League’s developer Riot Games, is bringing multiple 4K UHD and Blu-ray Steelbook physical editions of Arcane season two for collectors with additional goodies like exclusive original artwork, Anomaly resin dice, posters, pin, and three hours of bonus content like season one. Those extras feature interviews with the showrunners and voice actors, offering a peek behind the curtain at making the acclaimed series, but fans are still clamoring for something more.

Though some fans complained about the show’s pacing, all eyes were on the deleted scenes, especially the extended steamy sequence between Caitlyn and Vi. In a petition that has over 80,000 signatures on change.org, fans begged for the creators to release the extended cut, which the showrunner has confirmed was cut from the final version.

Not only that, several alternative storylines like the one between Jinx and Ekko were barely explored in the show, with their dynamic confined to just a single episode before the narrative shifted back to the main plot. Fans have since taken it upon themselves to expand on their relationship through fan comics and fanfiction, hoping to see more of their shared history and chemistry brought to life someday.

The deleted scenes could have included these unique arcs more and provided something new for the audience to add to their collection. They could also have given fans exclusive scenes to watch from the series, which would reward them for investing in a physical version of the popular animated show.

In the era of streaming, where fans can already watch Arcane in 4K on Netflix anytime, the physical release needed something truly special to entice collectors and fans. Without meaningful extras beyond the standard package, it’s no surprise the release has left much of the community underwhelmed.

Fans can only hope that someday, Riot and GKIDS decide to go all-in and give the future Riot animation shows the deluxe, uncut treatment it truly deserves for the collectors.
