Playwright Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia brings together comedy, science, suspense and romance under one roof. With a little bit of alchemy and a whole lot of chemistry, the play explores past and present, enlightenment, romance and the second law of thermodynamics.
In the British countryside, two narratives, two hundred years apart, play out over one weekend. In 1809, a young Thomasina and her tutor Septimus invent chaos theory a century early, or it could just be romance. Two hundred years later, two scholars try to resolve the past’s mysteries.
In his 50th year as a director, Richard Cottrell, who directed the Stoppard hit Travesties in 2009, returns with an all-star cast for the Sydney Theatre Company show that includes Ryan Corr, Blazey Best, Andrea Demetriades, Glenn Hazeldine and Josh McConville.
