Arc Raiders, Highguard, and GTA dominate PlayStation’s top downloads in January 2026

February is finally here, and with it comes a look back on what titles were most popular throughout the very beginning of 2026. PlayStation’s monthly data drop on top downloads reveals what’s trending with players, which includes a few surprises, but still mostly consists of the normal fare in sports titles and FPS.

One notable trend for PlayStation’s most popular titles in January was the reappearance of various Fallout titles like Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, likely due to the release of Prime’s Fallout season two. With additional rumors swirling around a remaster or remake for Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas, the time seems ripe for Bethesda to drop more information on the next game.

Top titles for PS5 in January

Beginning with the unsurprising, ARC Raiders topped the list for PS5 games in the United States and Canada. The game has been met with mass adoration ever since its release last October, even winning Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards, though it was beat out for first in the EU by EA Sports FC 26.

Following the US/Canada chart, Grand Theft Auto V secured second place, showing how strong interest still is in the decade-old title even as the gaming world readies for Grand Theft Auto 6’s release later this year. Rounding out the top five in the US/Canada are NBA 2K26, Minecraft, and EA Sports Madden NFL 26. Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft both made appearances in the EU’s top five, alongside UFC 5.

The top free-to-play titles in January

In Free-to-Play, the usual suspects topped the list in both regions (namely Fortnite and Roblox). One surprise came in the appearance in fifth place for the US and Canada of Highguard, the brand-new raid shooter that came out with a rocky launch in both marketing and game performance.

Highguard was first revealed in the highly coveted final reveal slot at the last Game Awards, marking it out for high expectations upon release. It’s likely due to this high-profile announcement that player interest was so high at launch, but it remains to be seen if Highguard will be able to hold player’s attention for much longer.

Comparing the top games from Dec. 2025

For the most part, the top titles on PlayStation between last December and January stayed relatively similar. One massive trend that ended in January is a wave of popularity for Five Nights at Freddy’s titles, like FNAF 1, FNAF 2, and FNAF 4. Considering the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie released in early Dec., this short spurt of attention makes sense.

Notably, GTA V has been steadily rising in the charts for both the US/Canada and the EU since Nov. 2025, which might indicate the rising excitement for Grand Theft Auto 6 later this year.
