Arachnado trailer sees the US destroyed by cyclones full of killer spiders

America is laid to waste by a tornado full of giant killer spiders in the first trailer for Arachnado, a new horror movie that makes Sharknado look about as terrifying as a basket of kittens.

The trailer for the new and very low-budget film depicts an ensemble of unfamiliar actors sporting bad wigs and hiding in what appears to be a motel room as spiders rain down upon the world outside.

“Cyclone! Cyclone!” shouts one person. “But it’s got f***ing spiders in it!”

A spidery spin on Sharknado has been mooted for several years in fan circles, most notably when The Asylum, the studio behind Sharknado, asked for fan suggestions about potential spin-offs for their most profitable franchise.

“What kind of nado would be crazier than a sharknado?” asked their official Twitter account. Among the most popular replies was: “Arachnado! Spiders!”

Already fans have suggested a crossover between both movies, with one person tweeting: “Sharknado vs Arachnado will be the new Alien vs Predator.”

Arachnado stars Mel Novak, Deborah Dutch, Brinke Stevens and Sheri Davis, who this year also starred in the similarly themed (if more dubious-sounding) Angry Asian Murder Hornets.

It’s a slightly lower-wattage cast than Sharknado, which starred Beverly Hills 90210 actor Ian Ziering and the American Pie star Tara Reid.

The 2013 film was followed by five sequels, which featured appearances from the likes of David Hasselhoff, Jerry Springer, Samantha Fox and LaToya Jackson.

Arachnado currently does not have a UK release date, but according to its trailer will be available to stream in the US in November.
