The Yemeni parties’ declaration of a new power-sharing government in line with the Riyadh Agreement has been welcomed by the Arab world and international community.

United Nations envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths congratulated “President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi, the parties to the Riyadh Agreement, all political parties and components that supported and contributed to this process and Saudi Arabia for successfully negotiating it.”

“This is an important step for enhanced stability, improvement of state institutions and increased political partnership.” Griffiths said in a statement. “It is also a pivotal step towards a lasting political resolution to the conflict in Yemen.”

He noted: “More work needs to be done to include Yemeni women in the Cabinet and decision-making posts, especially following the historic precedent that Yemen’s political transition had set through the National Dialogue Conference.”

He wished success to the prime minister and the Cabinet “in their efforts to address the many challenges faced in the country and improve the lives of Yemeni people.”

The Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen announced on Friday a new power-sharing 24-member cabinet that would include Southern Transitional Council (STC) members in the legitimate government.

Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik was reappointed to head the new cabinet, which includes five ministers from Yemen’s biggest political blocs, including the STC and Islah party, a statement from Hadi’s office said.

Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary-General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen hailed the formation of the government and implementation of the political part of the Riyadh Agreement.

He lauded Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, for their continued efforts to support the Yemeni people as they aspire to restore security and stability in their country.

Bahrain welcomed the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, saying it was a significant step that would boost and unite Yemeni efforts to confront the Iran-backed Houthi militias and meet the hopes of the people for a stable and secure Yemen.

Bahrain’s foreign ministry praised the efforts exerted by Saudi Arabia, King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed in restoring stability to the war-torn country.

Egypt said the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement was a step towards reaching a comprehensive political settlement to the conflict.

A foreign ministry spokesman highlighted Saudi Arabia’s efforts in sponsoring the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement and its continued support for a political solution.
