
The Arab League launched its first ever campaign in Russia to highlight developments in Jerusalem and mobilize public and official support for the Palestinians, especially in Jerusalem.
The campaign aims at confronting US moves and accelerated steps taken by the Israeli government to change the city's landmarks, and making it the capital of a Palestinian state within the framework of a two-state solution, according to the Palestinians.
Arab League mission in Moscow organized a large-scale symposium to launch its campaign.
The symposium was attended from the Russian side by representatives of social and cultural organizations as well as representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and the spiritual administration of Russia’s Muslims in addition to Arab ambassadors, academics, and representatives of social and cultural institutions.
Arab League's appointed representative to Russia Jaber Habib Jaber, Palestinian President's Foreign Affairs advisor Nabil Shaath, Morocco’s ambassador to Russia Abdelkader Lecheheb, Jordan’s ambassador to Russia Amjad Adaileh and Palestinian ambassador to Russia Abdul Hafiz Nawfal delivered their speeches in the event.
While those who delivered speeches from the Russian part were head of the Jerusalem Center, representative of the religious administration of Russia’s Muslims and representative of the Russian Church.
In his introductory speech, Jaber pointed out to the special importance attached by the Arab League to launch this effort.
He said that the initiative to carry out events highlighting the great dangers facing Jerusalem comes under unprecedented threats aimed at falsifying history and removing Jerusalem from the settlement equation.
He added the political measures and US and Israeli moves at the political level coincide with the escalation of violations on the ground to change the city’s features.
He highlighted three main points: the expansion of settlements in and on Jerusalem’s outskirts, pointing to the existence of 38 settlements; the systematic violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque; and the relentless Israeli attacks on Palestinians in Jerusalem.
AL’s representative also pointed out that 2018 saw 288 violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque, involving 29,000 settlers, including ministers, Knesset members, and officials.
