The Saudi-led Arab coalition warned on Wednesday that the Iran-backed Houthi militias’ ongoing terrorist behavior will lead to an environmental and economic disaster on the region and the world, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that the “alliance, in coordination with the international community, has taken all necessary measures to ensure freedom of navigation and international trade through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and southern Red Sea.”
The measures are in line with international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, starting with resolution 2216, he stressed.
The Arab coalition will continue its efforts in coordination with the international community to preserve regional and international security and global stability, he vowed.
Maliki revealed that the coalition command had carried out in recent days an assessment of all hostile terrorist acts committed by the Houthis.
The militias had last week attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Mandeb Strait off the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah. The attack slightly damaged one tanker and prompted the Kingdom to temporarily suspend its oil shipments through the strait until safety of navigation is secured.
