The Saudi-led Arab coalition announced on Sunday that its forces had thwarted an attack by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in the Red Sea.
Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki said the Houthis were seeking to carry out an attack using an explosive-laden boat launched from Hodeidah.
The coalition detected the Houthi plot to carry out an “imminent hostile and terrorist” act in the southern Red Sea through a remote-controlled vessel, he continued.
The Houthis launched the boat, which was promptly destroyed by the coalition’s naval forces, stressed Malki.
He slammed the Houthis’ plot as a threat to regional and international security, as well as global marine trade and navigation routes.
Moreover, he revealed that the coalition had within 24 hours discovered and destroyed three Houthi-planted naval mines in the Mandeb Strait and southern Red Sea.
This brings to 150 the number of naval mines that have been planted by the militias.
Malki stated that the Houthis have been using Hodeidah province as a platform to launch ballistic missiles, drones and booby-trapped vessels and plant naval mines in clear and flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Stockholm agreement.
He vowed that the joint coalition command will continue to carry out firm measures against the terrorist militias and neutralize and destroy their capabilities.
